PURPOSE: To prevent any leakage of the electrolyte of an alkaline battery, and increase the preservation performance of the battery by interposing a sealing agent containing a given amount of carbon powder between an insulating gasket and a negative case which form the sealing part of the battery.
CONSTITUTION: A positive active material 2, a separator 3 and a liquid holding material 4 are inserted in a positive case 1, in that order. A negative case and sealing plate 7, in which a negative active material 6 made of zinc powder is packed, is placed on the material 4. At the same time, an insulating gasket made of a synthetic resin is interposed between the case 1 and the plate 7 to hermetically seal the battery, and the whole constitutes an alkaline battery. A sealing gasket 8, which principally contains an aliphatic polyamide having an amine value of 10∼400 and is added with carbon powder, is interposed between the gasket 5 and the negative case 7. The content of the former carbon powder is 2∼20wt% of the sealing agent 8. A soft film made of an oligomer is preferred to be provided between the sealing agent 8 and the gasket 5. It is preferable that the grain diameter of the former carbon powder is 0.01∼0.1μm.
