Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an anionic copolymer which forms a stable aqueous solution, is lowly volatile, can be used in combination with an acidic dye and has excellent weather resistance by copolymerizing an ethylenically unsaturated electrolyte with an ethylenically unsaturated benzotriazote ultraviolet absorber.
SOLUTION: This copolymer comprises at least 50wt.%, in total, repeating units represented by formulas I and II and has water solubility and ultraviolet absorptivity. In formulas I and II, R1 is hydrogen or a 1-12 C alky; R2 and R3 are each hydrogen or methyl; Y is COOR4 OCOR5, CH2, CONH, a direct bond or the like (wherein R4 and R5 are each a 1-8 C alkylene or the like), provided that the left valence bond of each group is bonded to the main chain; Y2 is SO3Z1, COOZ2 or the like (Z1 and Z2 are each hydrogen or a halogen); X is hydrogen or a halogen. It is desirable that the content of the repeating units represented by formula I is 10-60wt.%, that of the repeating units represented by formula II is 40-90wt.% and the total amount of both types of units is at least 50wt.%.
