To obtain antibacterial and antifungal regenerated leather paper having a good strength and the touch of a natural leather by treating base paper made from rubbish leather fibers and foamable particles with a resin containing an antibacterial agent and/or an antifungal agent.
This antimicrobial regenerated leather paper is obtained by preparing base paper comprising rubbish leather fibers in an amount of 50-80 wt.% based on the total weight of the base paper and foamable particles, such as microspheres comprising a thermoplastic resin such as vinylidene chloride/ acrylonitrile copolymer as a shell component and a low boiling point solvent such as a butane-based hydrocarbon as a core component, in an amount of 0.5-10 pts.wt., and subsequently immersing the prepared base paper in an emulsion comprising a synthetic resin having a glass transition temperature of -40 to +30°C, such as an alkyd resin, and an inorganic antimicrobial agent such as zeolite-based silver and/or an organic antifungal agent such as an organic tin compound in an amount of 0.2-5 wt.% based on the total amount of the base paper. The rubbish leather fibers are obtained by crushing rubbish tanned leathers in a dry state.
