To obtain the subject new substance capable of inhibiting proliferation of microorganisms and exhibiting antimicrobial action and useful as a therapeutic agent, etc., for infectious diseases by culturing a microorganism belonging to Eupenicillium javanicum having antimicrobial substances DE-53594s producing ability.
This new antimicrobial substance is represented by the formula (R is α-D-glucopyranosyl) and prevents proliferation of microorganisms and exhibits antimicrobial action and is useful as a therapeutic agent for infectious diseases. The new antimicrobial substance is obtained by culturing a microorganism belonging to Eupenicillium javanicum having ability to produce antimicrobial substances BE-53594s [e.g. Eupenicillium javanicum F53594 (FERM P-15297), etc.] or its variant in a culture medium and collecting the product from the cultured product.
