CONSTITUTION: An antiviral agent comprising a glycyrrhizic acid derivative shown by formula I (X and Y are each H or together form oxo; A1 is H, methylene or carbonyl; A2 is H, cyano, carbamoyl, carboxy or alkoxycarbonyl; m and n are integer; R1 is COOR2 (R2 is H or alkyl), formula II (R3 is alkyl, alkenyl, phenyl, etc.) or formula III (A3 is S, O or NH; L is integer)] or a salt thereof such as 1-(3β-hydroxy-18β-olean-12-en-3-O-oyl)-4-(o-methoxyphenyl) piperazine as an active ingredient, especially useful as a treating agent for infectious diseases of herpes virus group.
