To provide an apparatus for exchanging a mold, wherein one kind of the mold exchanging apparatus can cope with several kinds of machines using the mold, and even the heavy and hot mold can easily and surely be exchanged.

A mold carrying device 1 is moved to a position facing a machine for taking away the mold by working a driving mechanism 4, and an empty mold carrying cart 8 is moved to just below the mold by working a traction mechanism 9 through the existing guide rails, and the mold is taken away from the machine with a suitable conventional means and laid on the mold carrying cart 8, and the mold carrying cart 8 laying the metallic mold by working the traction mechanism 9, is retreated from the machine through the casting guide rails. Further, after laying a pallet 18 for carrying, which lays the mold carrying cart 8 for laying the mold to be fitted, on the rail 19, on the second cart 17 of the mold carrying apparatus 2 with a forklift, the mold carrying apparatus 2 is moved into a prescribed position facing a machine for fitting the mold and the mold carrying cart 8 laying the mold, is moved to just below the mold fitting position through the existing guide rails by pushing with man-power and thereafter, the mold on the mold carrying cart 8 is fitted to the machine with the suitable conventional means.
