To enhance engraving quality by synthesizing a desired cutting toolpath from image data corresponding to an image to be engraved, thereby obtaining large flexibility.
An image processing computer 40 connected to an engraving controller 38 generates digital image data regarding an image to be engraved by an engraving unit 10 and the engraved image. And, a digital signal processor or processing means 42 connected to the controller 38 generates a toolpath to be traced by a cutter stylus 30 so as to engrave an engraving area to be engraved in response to a flow of the digital image data. Further, an amplifier 53 connected to the processor or the means 42 amplifies a signal generated from the processor or the means 42, transmits it to an engraving head 28, and drives the stylus 30 so as to engrave a pattern on the engraving area of a surface of a cylinder 24. Thus, engraving quality can be enhanced.
