To provide an apparatus for monitoring an escalator, in which a surveillance camera can be arranged at a position, where such a suspicion is not arisen from a passenger that the passenger is peeped from below and the surveillance camera is out of the way of the passenger, and the exposure of an electric wire to be connected to the surveillance camera can be easily suppressed.
A cylindrical body 10 is hung from the backside of a movable warning plate 9 when the ascending direction of the escalator is defined as a forward direction. The surveillance camera 11 is housed in the upper part of the cylindrical body 10. A part of an electric wire member 60 for connecting the surveillance camera 11 to a video recording device is housed in a cylindrical part 9a arranged at the back end of the movable warning plate 9. The electric wire member 60 is wired in such a manner that it is connected to the surveillance camera 11, extended from the upper end of the cylindrical body 10 toward the upper part of the cylindrical part 9a of the movable warning plate 9 along the ceiling 51, passed through the cylindrical part 9a from the upper end thereof to the lower end, further extended toward an external deck board 6 and guided to the inside of the external deck board 6.
