To provide an aqueous polymeric composition containing selected polymeric nanoparticles.

The selected polymeric nanoparticle contains at least one multiethylenically unsaturated monomer and at least one water-soluble monomer as polymer units and has an average diameter of 1-50 nm. The aqueous polymeric composition further contains 2nd particles such as pigment particles or 2nd polymer particles. The aqueous polymeric composition is useful for forming a coating having at least one improved property compared with a coating free from the selected polymeric nanoparticle. The aqueous polymeric composition is useful for the treatment of wood. The invention further provides a coating produced by using the aqueous polymeric composition.
