PURPOSE: To obtain the subject novel compound derivative which is an aryl or heterocyclic cyanoguanidine derivative, has a potassium channel opening activity and is useful as a cardiovascular agent, especially as an antiischemic agent for myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, etc. or an therapeutic agent for hypertension, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound is a novel compound of formula I [wherein X is O, S or NCN; R1 is aryl or heterocyclo; R2 is H, (substituted) alkyl, alkenyl, CN, NO2, COR (wherein R is H, alkyl, aryl or the like), COOR, halogen, (substituted)amino, hydroxy or the like; R3 and R4 are each H, alkyl, aryl or arylalkyl, or R3 and R4 together with the linking carbon atom form a 3-7 membered carbon ring; and (n) is 0, 1 or 2] [e.g. N"-cyano-N'-(6-cyano-2,3- dihydro-2,2-dimethyl-1H-inden-1-yl)-N-(3-pyridinyl)guanidine or the like] or a salt thereof, which is useful as a cardiovascular agent, especially an antiischemic agent or a hypertension therapeutic agent.
