Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem where conventional technology cannot accurately estimate the ATM virtual path capacity setting on an ATM network which is actually in operation with comparatively easy measurement items.
SOLUTION: A cell count section 1 counts the number of cells reaching a cell transmission queue buffer 121 by each prescribed period T and an average count section 4a obtains a value of dividing a total cell number by (k) for each period kT. Then excess frequency calculation sections 7, 8 and deficiency frequency calculation sections 11, 12 totalize the number of cells whose number is equal to each cell number for each period or over or less than it for a prescribed period T' (T'> T), divide each total value by all cell numbers within the period T', and an increasing rate/decreasing rate calculation section 15 approximates the logarithms of the division result with a prescribed m-th degree expression, to obtain the increasing rate of the distribution of the number of cells arriving per unit time and the decreasing rate of the complementary distribution. The system obtains the ATM virtual path capacity, satisfying a cell loss object rate by using the increasing rate decreasing rate.
