PURPOSE: To provide an automatic book vault capable of keeping the documents having a high utilization frequency nearby and shortening the access time to the documents.
CONSTITUTION: An automatic book vault is stratified into a main book vault 1 and auxiliary book vaults 2, 4 according to the level of the utilization frequency, and mechanically recognizable control numbers are applied to all documents. The utilization frequency information is updated each time the documents are conveyed, and the documents are distributively stored according to the utilization frequency. The documents are shifted between the main book vault 1 and the auxiliary book vaults 2, 4 so that the frequently utilized documents are stored in the auxiliary book vaults 2, 4 and the documents having a low utilization frequency are stored in the main book vault 1. Only the documents having high necessity are arranged in the work space of an office, the wasteful utilization of the work space is prevented, and the documents can be quickly taken out.
