To provide an automatic document feeding device ADF for an image reading device easily capable of eliminating a jammed document without damaging it.

This ADF 30 is provided with a document tray 31, first to third feed rollers 32a-35a, a carry-in and carry-out means 34, a pair of sheet discharge guide rollers, first to third jam detection sensors 41-43, a supply sheet cover 51, a discharged sheet cover 52, a supply sheet cover sensor 51a, and a discharged sheet cover sensor 52a. Above feed rollers 32a-35a can be rotated normally and reversely by a motor and manually. In the case either of the jam detection sensors 41-43 detects a jam, when the ADF 30 determines that a document P can be discharged by normal or reverse rotation of one of the feed rollers 32a-35a close to a jam generated position without damaging the document P, this result of determination is displayed in an operation and display panel, and as an operator opens the cover 51 or 52 at the jam generated position, the subject one of the feed rollers 32a-35a is rotated normally or reversely by the motor at a specified time after that to discharge the jam document P through a cover opened part.
