To provide an automatic swivelling device of an angular head in a machine tool, which automatic swivelling device can automatically swivel a head body having a submain spindle turnably mounted in the direction crossing a main spindle body at an arbitrary angle in the peripheral direction of the main spindle body, and can easily carry out a machining operation with high rigidity without using external power and electric power.
A swivelable index plate 9 having a positioning means 8 is arranged between a main spindle body 4 and a head body 7. An index table body 11 provided with an elevatable and swivelable table head 10 is arranged below the head body 7. In the embodiment of the present invention, an engaging and disengaging means 13 engageable and disengageable with an engaging means 12 provided on the head body 7 is provided on the table head 10, and a swivelling mechanism 14 is provided on the index table body 11 so as to swivel the head body 7 of the submain spindle 6 to be connected via the engaging and disengaging means 13 by the elevating operation of the head body 7 in the horizontal direction at an arbitrary angular interval, for example, an interval of 90 in the present embodiment.
