An axial gap type rotary electric machine has a field piece (50) annularly disposing a magnetic pole section (52) around an axis (Q) and the armature(40) oppositely arranged to the field piece, and the armature has the yoke (20) for the armature and the magnetic core (10) for winding annularly disposed on a main surface on the field piece side of the yoke for the armature in the axial gap type rotary electric machine. In the rotary electric machine, the yoke for the armature has the opening port (22c) on the side of the outer periphery of the yoke and has an engaging groove (22) extended in the radial direction to the axis on the main surface, and the magnetic core for winding has the engaging section (70), and engages the engaging section with the engaging groove in the axial direction and disposes the engaging section on the main surface. In the rotary electric machine, the magnetic core for winding is urged towards the inside in the radial direction by an inward component in the radial direction of a magnetic attraction force applied from the magnetic pole section.
