Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject compound useful for producing benzoylurea compounds capable of being used as insecticides by allowing a specific benzoyl fluoride to react with an azide compound in a solvent at a specified temperature.
SOLUTION: This benzoic acid azide of the formula: Q-CO-N3 (Q is 2,3,4,5- tetrafluorophenyl, 2,3,4-trifluoro-5-chlorophenyl or the like) is obtained by allowing a benzoyl fluoride of the formula: Q-CO-F to react with an azide compound selected from sodium azide, potassium azide, and potassium azide in a solvent (for example, chlorobenzene, dichlorobenzene, a high boiling point ether, toluene or the like) at 80 to 180°C, preferably 100 to 140°C. A reaction for producing a benzoylurea compound is carried out through a reaction of the obtained carboxylic acid azide into the isocyanate compound by a Curtius decomposition reaction.
