To provide a barrier rib having a large aperture ratio and breakdown voltage, and excellent in reliability and mass production adaptability by disposing an intermediate layer formed of an oxide in a specific thickness between a metal base material and an electric insulation layer of the barrier rib of a gas discharge display panel wherein the surface of the metal base material having multiple through holes are covered with the electric insulation layer.
The formation of an intermediate layer 2 formed of an oxide and having a thickness of 5 μm or less between a metal base material 1 and an electric insulation layer 3 covering it improves the adhesion between metal base material 1 and the electric insulation layer 3, and serves to remarkably improve the insulating property. The electric insulation layer 3 preferably contains glass. The thermal expansion coefficient and the softening point of the glass can be adjusted depending on its admixture composition, and it has good wettability to the intermediate layer 2 formed of the oxide, so that it can uniformly cover the surface of the metal base material 1. It is recommended that an Fe-Ni based alloy containing Ni in a range of 30-52% or a 426 alloy of Fe-42Ni-6Cr is used for the metal base material 1.
