PURPOSE: To enhance the surface gloss on the side where a photographic emulsion layer is provided by specifying the Bekk smoothness of a raw paper surface, the melt index of a polyolefin resin coating layer and the coating weight of the resin coating layer.

CONSTITUTION: The base for photographic paper having ≥300sec. Bekk smooth ness of the raw paper surface on the side where the photographic emulsion layer is provided, 3W15g/min melt index of the polyolefin resin coating layer on the side where the photographic emulsion layer is provided by an extrusion coating method and 30W40g/m2 coating weight of the resin coating layer is used. While the raw paper of the paper base consists essentially of natural pulp, the raw paper formed by sheeting of synthetic pulp and synthetic fibers except the natural pulp may be used at need. Various high-polymers and additives such as dry paper strength intensifying agent and wet paper strength intensifying agent, fixing agent thereof, electrolyte, pigment, pH control agent, dye and brightening agent may be added to this raw paper. The surface gloss is thereby enhanced.
