Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent dielectric breakdown even when a dielectric layer is thinly formed, and to provide high luminance and high reliability by covering the surface of a silver electrode with a layer with a specified thickness or less, consisting of a metal oxide forming hydroxyl group on the surface, and coating the surface thereof with the dielectric layer. SOLUTION: The thickness of a metal oxide is set <=10 μm. A front panel 10 is obtained by forming a discharge electrode 12 on the surface of a front glass base 11 in stripes, and forming a metal oxide layer 13a thereon by reacting a chelate with oxygen by CVD. Since the metal oxide layer 13a slowly grows on the surface of the glass base and the electrode, a minute metal oxide layer is formed. It has satisfactory adhesion and wettability with Ag of the material of a discharge electrode 12, so that a defect such as bubble is never caused. Since the metal oxide layer 13a has the property of forming hydroxyl group on the surface, the wettability of the dielectric layer glass layer 13 formed thereon is enhanced.
