EXAMPLE: 2-(p-Chlorophenylthio)2-phenyl-1-nitroethane.
USE: A safe agricultural and horticultural germicide effective for loose smut of wheat or barley, etc., and blast or rice plant, etc., when used as a seed disinfectant without toxicity to humans, animals and fishes.
PREPARATION: According to the reaction formula, a β-nitrosonitroethane expressed by formula II is reacted with a mercaptan expressed by formula III to afford the aimed β-nitrophenethyl derivative expressed by formula I.
