Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a bibenzyl synthase gene encoding a bibenzyl synthase, obtainable from orchids, having raised resistance to disease and inset pest, useful for producing a plant.
CONSTITUTION: This bibenzyl synthase gene is hybridized with a bibenzyl synthase cDNA contained in plasmid p8,1,1 or its part or a cDNA of the formula or its part and encodes a bibenzyl synthase. A transgenic plant cell (including protoplast) and a plant body (including a plant body part and a seed) having increased resistance to disease and insect pest are obtained by using the bibenzyl synthase gene or its part and/or a recombinant DNA.
