Abstract:

To obtain a blocked lectin having an action on selectively killing tumor cells and containing specifically bonded ligands so as to block the oligosaccharide-bonded sites of the lectin with optically activation-impossible reactive groups on the ligands.

This blocked lectin containing affinity ligands bonded to block the lectin (for example, ricin) with reactive groups on the ligands is obtained by covalently bonding one or more of the affinity ligands to a solid carrier through optical activation-impossible reactive groups on the affinity ligands, activating the reactive groups to form reactive groups having affinity to the oligosaccharide sites of the lectin, and subsequently bonding at least one of the activated reactive groups having affinity to the oligosaccharide-bonded sites of the lectin to the oligosaccharide-bonded sites of the lectin, thus bonding the ligands to the lectin through the reactive groups on the ligands to block one or more of the oligosaccharide-bonded sites of the cytotoxic lectin (for example, ricin).
