To prevent the rotation of an inclined table exceeding an allowable rotation range in the case of the emergency shut-down of a power source such as a power failure.
In this inclined table indexing device 1 wherein a rotary member for a table or the like is rotated within the normal range of a rotational angle previously prescribed by a direct drive type motor to incline the table to keep the inclined table retained by the operation of a holding mechanism, an elastic displacement member 11 having a passive pressure surface 12 is provided at one of the rotary member and a frame 6 of the inclined table indexing device 1 and an engaging part 13 contacting with the passive pressure surface 12 at the other. When a rotating spindle 5 reaches the outside of the normal range of the rotational angle accompanied by the free rotation of the rotary member in an emergency case, the kinematic energy of the rotary member is absorbed by the elastic displacement member 11 to stop the rotary member before reaching a dangerous angle range.
