To obtain a building material, in which a malodor component existing in living environment and a harmful volatile organic compound such as formaldehyde and nitrogen monoxide and nitrogen monuoxide are changed into harmless substances and which can maintain comfortable living environment.
The building material is manufactured by carrying a semiconductor generating a photocatalytic reaction in a molded tabular body using porous granules and powder having adsorptivity as a component. To be concrete, one of zeolite, sepiolite and diatomaceous earth is preferable as the porous granules and powder having adsorptivity to a harmful substance and one of titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, in dioxide and silver oxide is preferable as the semiconductor generating the photocatalytic reaction respectively. The building material adsorbs the harmful substances under ultraviolet-ray irradiation, and continuously decomposes them into harmless substances.
