To sterilize by means of ultraviolet ray a fitting protrusion and its vicinity of a cap conveyer placed on a previous stage of a cap mounting and fastening machine, a chuck of a capping head or the like by using an ultraviolet sterilization means to prevent bacteria or the like from attaching to a cap via the fitting protrusion, the chuck or the like.
The capper comprises the cap mounting and fastening machine 12 having the capping head 40 to which a bottle 6 filled with contents is fed and which mounts a cap 1 on a mouth 6a of the bottle 6, the cap conveyer 14 having the fitting protrusion 20 to be fitted into a hole of the cap 1 for carrying the cap 1 held on the protrusion 20 to a catching position 32b where it is captured by the capping head 40, and an ultraviolet sterilizer 70 for radiating ultraviolet rays at least to the fitting protrusion 20 of the conveyer 14 for sterilization.
