Abstract:

To provide a brick satisfactorily usable even as a carbon-combined brick especially in a low carbon region by improving resistance to spalling without losing corrosion resistance of a carbon-combined brick.

This carbon-combined brick contains 0.5-10 pts.wt. of pitch containing 65-90wt.% of fixed carbon and having a 150-350°C softening point and 0.5-10 pts.wt. of a powdery thermosetting phenolic resin having ≥2,000 weight-average molecular weight based on 100 pts.wt. of a composition comprising 70-97 pts.wt. of a basic refractory material mainly composed of magnesia and 3-30 pts.wt. of a carbonaceous material.
