To provide a carriage driving mechanism capable of suppressing vibration of a carriage even if the carriage increases in weight and size.
A carriage driving mechanism includes a shaft 29 extending in a scanning direction and fitted in a carriage so that the carriage is reciprocally movable, a plurality of pulleys 19b and 19c arranged on both sides of the shaft 29, and a belt 16 wound around each of the pulleys with its both ends fixed to the carriage and pulling the carriage in the scanning direction in response to a rotation direction of the pulley. One end of the belt 16 is fixed to the carriage at a more forward position in a conveyance direction than a center of gravity of the carriage, and the other end of the belt 16 is fixed to the carriage at a more forward position in the conveyance direction than the center of gravity.
