Abstract:

To provide a catalyst-electrolyte composite having ion conductivity from which the catalyst is not detached nor slipped out, and to provide a production method thereof.

A carbon carrier 21 carrying a metal catalyst 20 is coated with an ion conductor 22. The ion conductor 22 includes an inorganic proton conductor containing a zirconium compound, an inorganic anion conductor containing an anion conductive inorganic compound, and a laminate of inorganic compounds and organic compounds. Since the carbon carrier is coated with the ion conductor 22 to be prevented the metal catalyst from being detached or slipped out from the carbon carrier, degradation of catalyst performance can be prevented from occurring and ion conductivity can be ensured.
