Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a catalyst useful for producing an olefin polymer having product properties of high quality in high activity by including a modified clay compound having a specific average particle diameter, a transition metal compound and an organic aluminum compound.
SOLUTION: The objective catalyst is produced by bringing (A) a modified clay compound having ≤10 μm average particle diameter into contact with (B) a transition metal compound {preferably, a group 4 transition metal compound in the periodical table of formula I [M1 is titanium, zirconium or hafnium; Y is H, a halogen, an alkyl, etc.; R1 and R2 are each a ligand formula II (R6 is H, an alkyl, an aryl, etc.)], etc., concretely, bis(cyclopentadienyl)titanium dichloride}, and (C) an organic aluminum compound of the formula; AlR163 (R16 is H, a halogen, an alkyl, etc.), (preferably, a trialkylaluminum compound) in an inert gas atmosphere in a solvent inert to each component at (-50)°C to the boiling point of the solvent, preferably at the temperature not less than the room temperature.
