Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalytic composition for hydrogenation having high selectivity to a mono-olefin and long catalytic life by forming from palladium metal or palladium oxide, an alkali metal iodide and an inorganic carrying material.
SOLUTION: The catalytic composition for selective hydrogenation is composed of palladium metal or palladium oxide, the alkali metal iodide and the inorganic carrying material. The alkali metal iodide is suitably potassium iodide. The inorganic carrying material is alumina, silica, titania, zirconia, aluminosilicate (clay or zeolite), zinc aluminate or zinc titanate and suitably alumina and more suitably α-alumina. And the catalytic composition contains usually 0.01-2wt.% (suitably 0.05-1wt.%) palladium, and 0.02-10wt.% (suitably 0.05-5wt.%) alkali metal (suitably potassium).
