Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide an engine combustion control device which can reduce the production quantity of NOx and enhance the fuel consumption performance.
CONSTITUTION: In a high combustion stability zone in a lean burn area, air is fed from a first intake port 4 so as to create a swirl in a combustion chamber 6, and fuel is injection toward the center part of the combustion chamber 6 from a first fuel injection valve 17 so as to form a rich mixture. Further, the mixture is ignited by a center part spark plug 8, and accordingly, the ignitability is enhanced while the fuel consumption performance is enhanced, resulting in reduction of the generation quantity of NOx. Meanwhile, in a zone where the combustion stability is slightly low, air is fed from two intake ports 4, 5 so as to create inclined swirls, and fuel is fed from a second fuel injection valve 18 so as to form a rich mixture at the peripheral edge of the combustion chamber. Further, the mixture is ignited by peripheral spark plugs 9 to 11 so as to enhance the ignitability, thereby it is possible to reduce the production quantity of NOx.
