Abstract:
To provide compositions and treatment methods for treating diseased or damaged bone, preferably ischemic and/or necrotic bone.SOLUTION: A composition includes endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs), mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), and a solid carrier material. The composition includes the EPCs and MSCs in a cell number ratio of at least about 2:1. The solid carrier material includes a collagenous extracellular matrix (ECM) tissue material. The ECM tissue material retains native bioactive substances from a source tissue for the ECM tissue material. The native bioactive substances include growth factors, glycosaminoglycans, proteoglycans and glycoproteins, are retained by the ECM tissue material as solids interspersed between, upon and/or within collagen fibers of the ECM tissue material, and constitute at least 1% of the dry weight of the ECM tissue material. At least 50% of the total number of the EPCs and MSCs in the composition are attached to the solid carrier material.SELECTED DRAWING: None
