To provide a cellulose ester film which has an excellent ultraviolet absorption capability and in which the amount of an ultraviolet absorber eluted in an alkali saponification treatment is markedly decreased by incorporating an ultraviolet absorber having a specified m.p. or higher into the same.
A lower fatty acid ester of cellulose is preferable as the cellulose ester, cellulose triacetate being especially preferable. Preferably, the cellulose ester film is 20-60 μm thick and the content of an ultraviolet absorber is 0.2-2.0 g per m2 of the film. The film is prepared by mixing in-line, under agitation, a dope prepared by dissolving a cellulose ester in a solvent and a solution prepared by dissolving an ultraviolet absorber and a small amount of a cellulose ester in a solvent, casting the resultant mixture on a support to form a film, heating the film, peeling it from the support with a force in the range of from the min. tension capable of peeling at 17 kg/m, and drying it.
