PURPOSE: To carry out the chucking of a cylindrical article safely and securely without the need of man's hand by providing an elastically deformable ring member in between the end of a shaft holder and a cap.

CONSTITUTION: Plural cylindrical articles W are arranged on the pallet 13 of a pallet loading bogie 1 while, on the other hand, chucking devices C1WC4 are provided, and the pallet loading bogie 1 is advanced so as to be on the extension of chucking shafts 158. In this condition, a motor 121 is started, the chucking devices are lowered, and the chucking shafts 158 are inserted into the holes of the cylindrical articles W. And, a cylinder is contractingly operated, a rod is contracted, and a ring member is expanded to hold the cylindrical article W. The chucking devices are lifted up and stopped by means of the motor 121.
