To quicken separation speed of a moving contact and enhance current-limiting breaking performance.
In a circuit breaker in which an extinction chamber 6 is arranged so as to surround a breaking part comprising a fixed contact 3 and the moving contact 5, a frame body 20 made of an insulating material is installed so as to surround the vicinities of the fixed and moving contacts 7, 10 of the breaking part from right and left at a gap to the moving contact 5. When the moving contact 5 is separated by electromagnetic repulsion force and inner pressure is increased by the generation of arc gas, pressure on the under side of the moving contact 5 is suddenly increased by the surrounding by the frame body 20, the moving contact 5 is driven in the separating direction by the differential pressure between top and bottom to quicken the separation speed.
