The clothes dryer includes: a drying container 4; heating means 14; blowing means 13; control means 21 for controlling the drive of the heating means 14 and the blowing means 13; current detection means 21 for detecting the value of a current flowing to the heating means; time measuring means 21 for measuring the time during which the heating means 14 is operated; weight detection means 21 for detecting the weight of clothes housed inside the drying container 4; and storage means 21 for storing a minimum power consumption required for evaporating moisture in the clothes. The power consumption of the heating means 14 is calculated on the basis of the detected current value and the measured operation time, and on the basis of the fact that the calculated power consumption exceeds the minimum power consumption corresponding to the weight of the clothes, the heating means 14 is stopped.
