To shorten the clothes drying time by raising the temperature of an evaporator when drying clothes under low ambient temperatures thereby preventing clogging caused by the frost formation or the like on the evaporator.
The clothes dryer suppresses a reduction in the temperature of the evaporator 14 by operating the switching damper 27 of a circulating air path circulating drying air and shortening the circulation air path for the fixed time (the time of T1) when a temperature sensor 23 attached to the evaporator 14 detects a temperature equal to or below a setting value, and suppresses the frost formation to the evaporator 14 by suppressing the reduction in the temperature of the evaporator 14 when returning to a normal circulation air path after the lapse of the fixed time (the time of T1). Thus, the clogging of the evaporator 14 at the low ambient temperatures is suppressed and the drying time of clothes 4 or the like is shortened.
