Air flowing in a casing during drying with both of high air volume at low speed and low air volume at high speed is optimized by switching a plurality of air paths according to the air volumes, changing the rotational frequency of a fan according to the air path, and switching the expansion angle of a casing according to the rotational frequency of the fan. As a result, air can smoothly flow and therefore, noise of the fan can be reduced. Further, as a circulation air path can be closed in a dewatering step, the air loss caused by the high-speed rotation of a drum 1 in the dewatering step can be suppressed, and the power consumption can be further reduced.
