To provide a process for producing a microbial coagulant effective for reducing the amount of waste sewage sludge separated and discharged every day in large amount from a sewage treatment facility or a waste water treatment facility of a plant, etc.
A bacterial strain TKF01 (FERM P-15999) of the genus Enterobacter or TKF02 (FERM P-15998) of the genus Acinetobacter proliferative with a substrate consisting of an organic acid such as acetic acid obtained from an organic waste of sewage or waste water sludge is cultured in a medium containing the organic acid as a substrate and the cultured product or a cultured and treated product is used as a main component of the objective microbial coagulant. When the coagulant-producing microorganism having the above organic acid substrate characteristics is cultured in a sewage and waste-water treating facility and the cultured product or cultured and treated product is used as a substitute for a chemical coagulant or in combination with the chemical coagulant in the sewage or waste-water treatment process, the microorganism functions as a safe coagulant compatible to environment. Further, since an organic acid is produced by using the generated sludge as a raw material, a recycling system comprising the generation and consumption of sewage or waste-water sludge at the same position can be constructed in the sewage or waste-water treatment facility.
