Abstract:
PURPOSE: To produce a composite foam comprising specified aerogel particles and a plastic foam, being excellent in mechanical strengths, heat resistance, heat insulation properties, and freedom in shape, and being useful for building panels, refrigeration machine components, or the like.
CONSTITUTION: There is provided the objective composite foam comprising (A) 10-90 vol.% SiO2 aerogel particles (e.g. SiO2 xerogel particles having a porosity of 60% or above, a density of below 0.6 g/cm3, and a particle diameter of 0.01-30 mm) and (B) 90-10 vol.% foamed plastic (e.g. polyurethane foam material prepared by using CO2 as a blowing agent). This foam is prepared, for example, by surrounding a floor of the component A with the component B.
