Abstract:
To provide a composite yarn which comprises carbon nanotubes, and which has a surface covered by a metal-plated layer and contains a metal also in its inside; and to provide a method for efficiently manufacturing the composite yarn by using a conventional industrial electrolytic plating method.SOLUTION: A composite yarn comprises: a twisted yarn comprising carbon nanotubes; and a metal-plated layer covering the surface of the twisted yarn. The thickness of the metal-plated layer is 1 μm or greater. The same metal as a metal covering the surface of the twisted yarn is precipitated inside the twisted yarn in an area ratio Sm/S (where Sm is the cross-section area of the metal portions present inside the twisted yarn comprising the carbon nanotubes, and S is the cross-section area of the twisted yarn portion comprising the carbon nanotubes) of 5-70% of the cross section of the twisted yarn. The breaking load of the composite yarn is 0.80 N or greater and is 80% or greater of the breaking load of the twisted yarn comprising the carbon nanotubes.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1(a)
