PURPOSE: To increase a packaging efficiency with a packaging paper by compressing an article to be packaged.

CONSTITUTION: Articles to be packaged 12 which are stacked and compressed by a pressing machine 1 are pushed out from the compression unit in the direction which is perpendicular to the compressing direction. By doing so, the articles to be packaged 12 are inserted from the opening of a wrapping/receiving case 20 while taking in a packaging paper 27 which is arranged on the upper surface opening edge of the wrapping/receiving case 20 which faces the end surface of the compressed articles to be packaged 12 and comes closer. Then, residual parts, which stick out from the upper surface and end surfaces of the wrapping/receiving case 20, of the packaging paper 27 wrapping three surfaces of the articles to be packaged 12 under a condition wherein the articles to be packaged 12 are contained in the wrapping/receiving case 20, are folded to package the six surfaces of the compressed articles to be packaged. By this method, the compressed articles to be packaged 12 of an approx. equilateral hexahedron are inserted from the upper surface opening of the wrapping/receiving case 20 while taking in one sheet of the packaging paper, and the projected parts of the stuck out packaging paper can be folded along the ridge lines of the articles to be packaged to complete the packaging.
