Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prevent the flawing of the surface of a cold- or hot-rolled steel sheet due to rusting at the time of storing a continuously cast billet outdoors by preventing the rusting of the billet by slats.
CONSTITUTION: A continuously cast billet is coated with a rust preventive consisting essentially of a water-soluble resin contg. one or ≥2 kinds among vinyl-modified alkyd resin, acrylic resin, modified acrylic resin and vinyl- modified epoxy ester resin and stored outdoors. Although halogens, salts, etc., are deposited on the billet, the rust preventive applied on the surface is excellent in water resistance and rigid, hence the infiltration of salts, etc., is blocked, and the billet is protected. Since the rust preventive is sublimated in a heating furnace, the surface properties of a hot-rolled steel sheet are not deteriorated by the rust preventive.
