Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To raise an insertion probability of a pin into an orthogonal region formed in a groove even in a high-rotation speed area of an internal combustion engine, in a constitution for making the groove formed in a cam carrier and the pin engaged with each other, and switching two kinds of cams which are different in profiles.SOLUTION: When an engine rotation speed is raised, a "pin insertion period", that is, a period in which a pin 24 can be inserted into an orthogonal region of a groove 18b becomes short. However, as indicated in the "pin insertion period", by changing valve timing to a retardant side at a time t(actual line), the start timing of the pin insertion period can be retarded compared with the case that the valve timing is not changed (dotted line). That is, according to a control example indicated in Fig. 4, a time allowance can be set before a start of the insertion of the pin compared with the case that the valve timing is not changed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
