To provide a control method for a variable displacement compressor, capable of avoiding a rapid increase in starting torque to keep the engine speed of a vehicle engine constant when the variable displacement compressor is started up in the state that liquid coolant is stored in a control pressure chamber.
A control device C determines whether the delivery of the liquid coolant from the control pressure chamber 121 is completed or not based on the pressure change of a delivery chamber 132 based on a detection signal from a pressure sensor S while supplying an electric current value capable of returning the delivery capacity of the compressor 10 in ordinary operation to a solenoid capacity control valve 35 just after starting the compressor 10 in the state that the liquid coolant is stored in the control pressure chamber 121. When it is determined that the delivery of the liquid coolant is completed, the control device C controls so that the electric current value is equal to or less than the electric current value having the delivery capacity of the compressor 10 as an intermediate capacity, and then, the electric current value is gradually increased.
