Abstract:

To provide a control unit of an internal combustion engine capable of suppressing early malfunction of a non-volatile memory as the number of times of executing a memory update process reaches to its upper limit value.

The control unit of the internal combustion engine includes an actuator 4 for changing a maximum lift quantity of an intake valve, a DRAM 53 for storing a position counter value P from a reference rotation angle of an output axis 42 of a motor 41 structuring the actuator 4 and an overwritable EEPROM 54 for storing a current rotation angle detected based on the reference rotation angle and the position counter value P. On stopping electric supply to the control unit, a reference operation position update process for storing the current rotation angle to the EEPROM 54 as the reference rotation angle after a next electric supply start is executed. However, if the reliability of the position counter value P stored in the DRAM 53 is determined to be low, the reference operation position update process is inhibited.
