PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To protect a mechanical clutch by judging a reverse rotation of a transmission, when a vehicle has moved in the reverse direction in a so-called slope start.
SOLUTION: Whether or not the transmission is rotating in the reverse direction is judged (S3) based on the variation of the rotation of the driving side or the driven side in the process for engaging the mechanical clutch after shifting the transmission into neutral, when the car speed has become higher than a required value V0 (S2) in the start waiting state (S1) that the transmission is shifted into a running stage and the mechanical clutch is disengaged. Next, when the accelerator pedal has been pressed down more than a required angle θ0 (S4) or a gear shifting command has been input from a gearshift lever (S5), the gear shifting into the running gear of the transmission is forbidden if the transmission is rotating in the reverse direction (reverse rotation flag=1) (S6). On the contrary, if the transmission is not rotating in the reverse direction, the transmission is shifted into the running stage corresponding to the pressed-down state of the accelerator pedal or the gear shifting command (S7).
