In the cooling speed control method for the heat treatment furnace, the atmospheric temperature of the heat treatment furnace can be switched by switching a step of performing the combustion of all burners installed in the heat treatment furnace at the excessive air ratio and promoting the heat discharge by the exhaust gas with an exhaust damper fully opened, a step of extinguishing a part of the burners and performing the combustion of the remaining burners at the regular air ratio to suppress the heat input, and a step of extinguishing all burners if the temperature difference between the set temperature value and the atmospheric temperature in the heat treatment furnace is not less than the set temperature difference.
