Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a copolymer having a narrow molecular weight distribution, useful as a tacky agent, an adhesive, etc., and having high performances, by copolymerizing a specific cyclopentadiene with dicyclopentadiene and a vinyl- substituted aromatic compound.
SOLUTION: This copolymer comprises a copolymer of a mixture of cyclopentadiene and/or dicyclopentadiene and a vinyl-substituted aromatic compound, having 60-130°C softening point, 30-90 wt.% vinyl-substituted aromatic compound content, 30-90 g/100 g bromine value, 400-1,000 number-average molecular weight and the ratio of cyclopentadiene and/or dicyclopentadiene and the vinyl-substituted aromatic compound of ≤2.5. The copolymer is obtained by copolymerizing 100 pts.wt. of the mixture of cyclopentadiene and/or dicyclopentadiene and the vinyl-substituted aromatic compound while dividedly adding the mixture to 50-500 pts.wt. of a solvent (e.g. benzene, toluene, xylene, etc.), heated preferably to ≥150°C preferably for 1-3 hours. The weight ratio of (di) cyclopentadiene: the vinyl-substituted aromatic compound is preferably 60:40-40:60.
