Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a Ti alloy having superior crevice corrosion resistance especially in a chloride soln. at high temp. and superior corrosion resistance to a nonoxidizing acid by adding a prescribed amount of W to Ti.

CONSTITUTION: This Ti alloy consists of 0.5W5wt% W and the balance Ti. The alloy has crevice corrosion resistance comparable to that of a Ti-Pd alloy which is commercially available as a crevice-corrosion resistant alloy, and the alloy has such high corrosion resistance that it is satisfactorily fit for practical use. The alloy is obtd. by adding a small amount of W which is available at a relatively low cost in place of expensive Pd.
